The Summit Coordinators

The Coordinators take overall command of the Summit with influence over every aspect of its planning and implementation. The pair are the main outlet for innovation each year and as the representatives of the Summit they meet with key partners to discuss the aims and logistics of the weekend. On the weekend itself the Coordinators will be responsible for the general image of the Summit and organisation of the summit's extensive team. They will also be on hand to answer any questions from delegates, speakers and sponsors.

Hashir Ahmed

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

After spending more time on WES than his degree in his first two years, Hashir is excited to carry on as Summit Coordinator with Paula, and make this the best year yet for our speakers and delegates! Whenever he manages to find free time, he likes spending it by eating, watching geeky videos, or playing football.

Biography:

Unfortunately Paula was unable to attend the Summit in the first year but heard great things about it from her friends and thus decided to join the communications team in second year. She is very happy to carry on as Summit Coordinator and looks forward to working with an incredible team to make it the best Summit to date! Paula is a foodie and even has her own instagram account called “eaternationals”.

Finance

The Finance and Sponsorship Team

The Finance and Sponsorship Team is responsible both for management of the summit finances and liaising with sponsors; raising sponsorship and ensuring our partners get the exposure they deserve. Working with our high profile sponsors for mutual benefit is a big part of the team's role, and we are also responsible for the departmental budget allocation, control of summit spending and ensuring we can get the most out of one of the largest society budgets on campus.

Biography:

After joining the Finance and Sponsorship Team in his first year, Chris enjoyed WES so much he wanted to continue with WES in a coordinator role. Chris looks forward to hosting on campus events with our sponsors and getting to know the WES 2017 team. In his free time, Chris loves sport, hiking and watching Formula One.

Biography:

After executing a few other conferences on campus, Hilmi wanted to be a part of what he felt the best conference on campus and is very excited to be a part of The Finance & Sponsorship Team. Hilmi is a second year International Management student with interest in development & public policy, specifically in emerging markets. In his free time, Hilmi loves cooking and video games.

Tech

The Tech Team

The Tech Team is responsible for the maintenance of the Warwick Economics Summit website and all the technical aspects that the Summit requires throughout the year. These responsibilities range from ticketing through to live-streaming the talks during the weekend. This year, the Tech Team has worked exceptionally hard to bring you this brand new website, and will continue to do so all the way up to the Summit weekend.

Gytautas Karklius

Biography:

Having loved his experience as a delegate for the last two years, Gytautas has decided to join the team as the Tech Coordinator and have a direct impact on the Summit. He hopes that Lithuanian duo will improve the technical part of the Summit significantly. In his free time, Gytautas likes travelling, playing and watching basketball.

Biography:

Being a part of the Tech Team in the 2016 Summit Justas started buzzing with ideas on how the event and IT infrastructure of the Summit can be improved. This year, teaming up with his dear friend and colleague Gytautas he is hoping to deliver highest event production quality to date. Outside of his academic and WES duties, he likes reading scary stuff about cyber security, hackers, and war.

The Internal Marketing and Operations Team

We are responsible for looking after weekend operations as well as marketing the Warwick Economics Summit to students at the University of Warwick. The Warwick Economics Summit has grown to be one of the biggest and best events on campus, as we regularly put on a stimulating weekend that is a sell-out success. Internal marketing therefore not only demands that we sell enough tickets to fill half the capacity of the Ramphal theatre, but moreover to ensure that we maintain an on campus presence from the start of the next academic year through to the post-Summit buzz.

Biography:

With Wes rumoured to be his middle name, Raggy is in his second year of IMO, looking to bring the Summit to life on campus with his team! When he is not thinking about how best to spend the marketing budget, Raggy leads Warwick Youth Phab, a local youth club for disabled and enabled young people and is also a keen athlete in his free time.

The External Marketing and Hospitality Team

Responsible for marketing the Warwick Economics Summit to students outside the University of Warwick. The Summit attracts students from the top universities across the world - last year it hosted 200 external delegates from 17 different countries! The team is also responsible for providing delegates with premium accommodation and transport to ensure that they are comfortable throughout their visit to the University.

Talks

The Talks Team

Each year the Talks Team strive to secure a distinguishing variety of high-profile speakers for the Summit. From Nobel Prize Winners to Central Bank Governors, year upon year the Summit can claim to welcome movers and shakers of the economic, political and business worlds. Inviting speakers and subsequently arranging their speaking arrangements and logistics are just a few of the tasks involved in creating the Summit. Besides organising stand-alone promotional speaker events leading up the Summit, our Team members also conduct various seminars addressing happening issues of today during the Summit.

Moving on from budgeting and number crunching in Finance & Sponsorship, Tarusa has now started finding and chasing speakers for the Talks Team. She is confident that we ALREADY have the best speaker line up to date, and recommends you watch this space! In her free time, she likes looking at pointless memes, lounging in bed and baking sweet treats for everyone to eat.

Previously a team member in IMO, Berenice decided to move on to the Talks Team and pinpoint high-profile speakers for the Summit. More than just a conference, the Summit is an opportunity for her to understand the application of theoretical economics and other social sciences to real worldwide issues. Berenice is passionate about theatre, literature, and triathlon.

Serving in the Talks Team was the highlight of Elias’s first year at university. Although welcoming a former Prime Minister of his country to Warwick was a once in a lifetime experience, he looks forward to further increasing the Summit profile in 2017, working closely with the rest of the team. Elias’s interests include art and history and he enjoys mountain trekking.

Comms

The Communications Team

The Communications Team is responsible for all communications, both internally and externally, regarding the Summit. They liaise with the media, ranging from national press outlets to student publications in order to give the Summit as much coverage as possible. They are also responsible for the management of the prominent social media presence that the Summit enjoys. The team will be working to bring you the latest news on the development of the 2016 programme, as well as the best of the weekend as it happens. Having discovered the Summit in his first year in a team full of girls, Louis was keen on pursuing his experience as Communications coordinator. He looks forward to delivering exciting content to the Summit's online audience. In his free time, Louis enjoys sports, poker and post-colonial Arabic literature.

For Ieva, WES seems to be the only stable thing at Warwick. Although she restarted her course in PPE, Ieva decided to carry on the best experience from the last year - WES. She was a team member of the Communications team last year and is now continuing her work as its deputy coordinator. Ieva is immensely passionate about literature and writing.

Socials

The Social Events Team

The Social Events Team is the creative engine that drives the Summit Ball, which is widely regarded as one of the highlights of the University of Warwick's social calendar. The Ball each year improves on its predecessors and the team will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects are planned, from the Theme, to the entertainment that will be provided for delegates. In addition, the team will be responsible for organising the many socials on which are built the core elements of The Summit team: friendship, relationships and memories.

Biography:

Vlad has moved on from a mostly-male Finance Team to an all-female Socials team, hoping to organise sassy socials, a (not so) boring ball, and a tremendous tour. With his exceptional poker face, he aims to keep everything mysterious and exciting to make sure the WES team’s bond is strong. Outside of the Summit, Vlad loves to play football, show off his table tennis moves, and play mind games during Cluedo.

Shannon knows the importance of balance - 4 days of parties and 3 days of WES - and she is keen to share this way of life with the WES team.
