The Summit Coordinators

The Coordinators take overall command of the Summit with influence over every aspect of its planning and implementation. The pair are the main outlet for innovation each year and as the representatives of the Summit they meet with key partners to discuss the aims and logistics of the weekend. On the weekend itself the Coordinators will be responsible for the general image of the Summit and organisation of the summit's extensive team. They will also be on hand to answer any questions from delegates, speakers and sponsors.

Adam Nowakowski

Coordinator Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Eat, Sleep, WES. Since starting his degree, Adam has adhered to this mantra day in and day out. Following two roller-coaster years on Talks and not being able to imagine uni life without WES, Adam decided to take on the challenge of leading the team. Aside from his academic interests, Adam is a passionate skier, kite surfer, and sailor but also enjoys following the Lakers, reading and salsa.

Aneesah Sarwar

Biography:

After discovering WES before even accepting her Warwick offer, Aneesah decided to live through the adventures of being in Socials for two years. Now in her third year, as Coordinator, she is is ready to lead the Summit to its highest peak yet. If she’s not busy guiding the 8 WES teams, this born and bred Brummie may be found zooming around in her Mini, eating sushi or at the gym.

Talks

The Talks Team

Each year the Talks Team strive to secure a distinguishing variety of high-profile speakers for the Summit. From Nobel Prize Winners to Central Bank Governors, year upon year the Summit can claim to welcome movers and shakers of the economic, political and business worlds. Inviting speakers and subsequently arranging their speaking arrangements and logistics are just a few of the tasks involved in creating the Summit. Besides organising stand-alone promotional speaker events leading up the Summit, our Team members also conduct various seminars addressing happening issues of today during the Summit.

Giovanni Carlo Billari

Biography:

A proud European, Giovanni is a 3rd year Economics student who became part of the WES family in his second year, when he joined the Talks Team. When he's not sending off invitations to world leaders, he enjoys skiing, cooking and going out with friends. You won't miss him at any WES social.

Louise Sodergren

Talks Deputy Coordinator Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Louise is a third year cconomics student. After having MC'd a panel debate of the Future of Work in 2018, she joined the Talks Team for the 2019 Summit. When she isn't inviting speakers and working on the content to deliver an inspiring conference, Louise enjoys public speaking, rowing, wind-surfing, and spending time with her friends.

Saheb Gurmel Singh

Talks Head Coordinator Studying:

PPE (3rd Year)

Biography:

Saheb is a third year Philosophy, Politics, and Economics student who swears by the Oxford comma. He is in his second year with WES after leaving IMO to lead the Talks Team this year. When not reading, baking, or cooking, he enjoys playing futsal and table tennis. His voyage in life is made less lonely with a dog and family of deep love, friends of questionable humour, and teachers of selfless giving.

Ops

The Operations Team

The Operations Team is responsible for handling the logistics and operations throughout the year and for the Summit weekend itself. It is the team at the Warwick Economics Summit that manages and organises the Summit activity. The team is responsible for taking care of all of the background activities that keep the Summit running efficiently behind the scenes and ensuring that the delegates of the Summit ultimately receive the highest quality of experience at the University of Warwick. They also oversee the purchase of merchandise in a cost-efficient way and ensure that the weekend operations run smoothly. The Operations team works closely with other teams to bring our marketing strategy to life and maintain a physical presence on campus and beyond.

Marta Musolino

Operations Coordinator Studying:

PAIS (3rd Year)

Biography:

After years enjoying WES from the audience, Marta finally decided to put her OCD to good use and join WES to lead the Operations Team this year. When not organising some event or chasing people to fill in a doodle poll, she is usually either annoyingly debating something, sailing or reading about Economics. Never found too far away from coffee.

A year of being a part of WES as team member of the internal marketing and operations team, Tarini was ready to dedicate her time solely to that of the operations of the summit. She is enthusiastic to plan and coordinate almost anything and thrives on learning new things!

The Communications Team

The Communications Team is responsible for all communications, both internally and externally, regarding the Summit. They liaise with the media, ranging from national press outlets to student publications in order to give the Summit as much coverage as possible. They are also responsible for the management of the prominent social media presence that the Summit enjoys. The team will be working to bring you the latest news on the development of the 2019 programme, as well as the best of the weekend as it happens. Communications Coordinator Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Giovanni is a 2nd-year Economics student who joined WES as a Communications Team member in his first year at Warwick. After his rewarding experience as part of WES2018, he couldn’t stand the prospect of leaving the Summit and its exceptional team. As the Communications Coordinator of WES2019, he is determined to make the Summit a space for debate able to reach an always larger audience.

Tulika Jain

Communications Coordinator Studying:

Economics and Global Sustainable Development (2nd Year)

Biography:

Tulika is a second-year Economics and Global Sustainable Development student. She joined WES in her first year as a Communications Team member where she was able to combine her passion for media and economics. Tulika adores cats, which is evident, as her cat features prominently on all her social media. Besides this, she greatly enjoys yoga, fantasy novels and everything Bollywood.

The External Relations & Hospitality Team

Responsible for marketing the Warwick Economics Summit to students outside the University of Warwick. The Summit attracts students from top universities across the world - last year it hosted over 200 external delegates from 17 different countries! The team also provides delegates with premium accommodation and directions on how to arrive on campus, while also ensuring that the external participants are comfortable throughout their stay.

Djihad Kramer

ERH Deputy Coordinator Studying:

Economics, Politics and International Studies (2nd Year)

Biography:

Djihad is in his second year of a degree in Economics, Politics and International Studies who joined WES during his first year as part of the External Marketing & Hospitality team. After meeting some exceptional individuals including Nobel Laureate Tawakkol Karman, he knew that WES is one of those experiences without which life at university would be incomplete. For Djihad, the opportunity cost of not being a part of WES is simply too great.

A second year PPE student, Isabella joined the ERH team at the end of her first year, bringing her enthusiasm and dedication to WES. After attending the Summit in 2018, she was inspired to put her passion for economics and politics to good use. Isabella, as any proud Italian, loves great food, good wine and good company, preferably all in one.

Biography:

Mara is in her 4th year studying Economics, Politics and International Studies. She has joined WES in her 2nd year as an External Relations and Hospitality Team Member and, after being abroad and working in Brussels for a year, she was determined to come back to Warwick and lead the ERH team. She enjoys salsa dancing, reading and taking photographs of trees and mountains.

The Social Events Team

The Social Events Team is the creative engine that drives the Summit Ball, which is widely regarded as one of the highlights of the University of Warwick's social calendar. The Ball each year improves on its predecessors and the team will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects are planned, from the Theme, to the entertainment that will be provided for delegates. In addition, the team will be responsible for organising the many socials on which are built the core elements of The Summit team: friendship, relationships and memories.

Elodie Pearson

PAIS (2nd Year)

Biography:

Work, Party, Wes, Repeat. Elodie is a second year PAIS student that joined the WES family only a few months ago. Full of energy and motivation, Elodie will never take no for an answer. Her optimism could make her move mountains. If you go smack on a Tuesday, you WILL see her on the dance floor. Her dedication is the same when it comes to her 10am on Wednesdays. Other than that, Elodie loves traveling and discovering new cultures, as well as won’t miss a skying trip when she goes back in Switzerland, her home country.

Biography:

For 2 years now, Tamara chases the coordinators with her visions of Socials. She decently balances her 3rd year EPAIS workload and passion for sports with ensuring close bonds in the WES family. Her responsibilities, ranging from organising the biggest ball on campus to trying to leave the club with the same number of team members as she came with, give her satisfaction and excitement, as well as small panic attacks.

Tech

The Tech Team

The Tech Team is responsible for the maintenance of the Warwick Economics Summit website and all the technical aspects that the Summit requires throughout the year. These responsibilities range from ticketing through to live-streaming the talks during the weekend. This year, the Tech Team has worked exceptionally hard to bring you a revised version of the WES app and will continue to do so all the way up to the Summit weekend.

Haoyang Xu

Tech Deputy Coordinator Studying:

Economics, Politics and International Studies (3rd Year)

Biography:

After attending WES as a delegate during his first year at University, Haoyang was so impressed by the Summit that he decided to join the organising team. He joined in his second year as a Tech Team member and is now the Deputy Coordinator. He has developed several skills on the job and is committed to making sure Tech Team performs better than ever before. In his free time, Haoyang enjoys mountain biking and plane spotting.

Nolan Wang

Tech Deputy Coordinator Studying:

Biography:

Nolan is, surprisingly, a data science student and he joined WES in his 3rd year. His main task for this year is to organise the team to build a new website for the summit. After joining WES, he cooperates with other hard core coders to push the attractiveness of the tech team to a new height. He believes that one day tech will be the most popular topic in the summit.

Biography:

Eamonn is in his 3rd year of both Economics and WES. With his brain power clocking in at roughly 8.3 trecentillion yottaflops (a requirement for his tech team), Eamonn is now in it for one final WES ride and will ensure it'll be the best one yet. While making sure nothing falls apart on stage, Eamonn is a multi-instrumentalist and an avid reader who is awaiting the day that he cooks the perfect stir-fry.

The Finance & Sponsorship Team

The Finance and Sponsorship Team is responsible both for management of the summit finances and liaising with sponsors; raising sponsorship and ensuring our partners get the exposure they deserve. Working with our high profile sponsors for mutual benefit is a big part of the team's role, and we are also responsible for the departmental budget allocation, control of summit spending and ensuring we can get the most out of one of the largest society budgets on campus.

Biography:

After going to great lengths to make it to WES in her first year, Aleena realised what she was missing out on. She was determined to join the best team which would shape her university life (the little remaining, sadly) in a way she didn't imagine. Apart from hoarding all the money WES has, you will find Aleena thinking and talking about food, and occasionally stealing Jamie's starbursts.

Sometimes miss his lectures, but never misses a team meeting. Jamie learnt about WES before even arriving as a fresher and eagerly joined the Finance Team. This year, in his second-year at uni, he's ready to take on the challenge of co-coordinator. When he's not calling sponsors, you can find him at Pop!, on the ski slopes, or queueing for a Bread Oven sandwich.

The Marketing Team

The Marketing team is responsible for building and promoting the WES brand throughout and beyond campus, all year-round. Furthermore, during the Summit weekend, we work hard to provide an unforgettable experience for all our visitors. This entails coming up with social media content and creative ways to announce our speakers and events, designing and making the promotional material, and ensuring that WES 2019 is a sell-out success, just like every year before it.

James joined the WES2017 internal marketing team in his first-year as a History & Politics student. After a record-breaking year, with tickets selling out in less than a minute, James is looking forward to besting the teams previous performance. Other than frantically designing adobe templates, James also loves rugby, travelling and politics.
