Will robots take our jobs? Is the Fourth Industrial Revolution imminent? Are we approaching a technological singularity?

Moderated by Louise Södergren, this year’s panel on the Future of Work brings together Mark Purdy, Managing Director and Chief Economist at Accenture Research, and Dr. Guido Matias Cortes, Assistant Professor at York University in Canada, to discuss those questions and much more.

Mr. Purdy leads Accenture’s research into a wide range of macroeconomic and geopolitical issues shaping the CEO agenda. A strong proponent and optimist of AI technology as the future driver of growth, his work powerfully illustrates how new technologies can act complementary as a new factor of production to create new categories of human jobs. Mr. Purdy also publishes widely on topics such as globalization, international competitiveness, and jobs.

Renowned in the field of Labour Economics, Dr. Cortes’ research focuses on some of the most pressing issues of our time; including occupational mobility, technological change, wage inequality, skill transferability and the task content of occupations. As co-author of "Disappearing Routine Jobs: Who, How, and Why”, his work has been vital to understand and decompose the dynamics of the real impact automation is having on the labour market. His paper has received notable mentions from distinguished newspapers such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.
