Our first speaker announced

WES 2013 is pleased to announce its first confirmed speaker, Dr. Martin Weale

Dr. Weale served for 15 years as director of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR), a leading British think tank. In 2010 he joined the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), replacing Kate Barker, who spoke at 2009’s Summit.

As a member of the MPC he is responsible for setting the UK’s official interest rate and overseeing monetary policy measures such as quantitative easing. He was made a Commander of the British Empire in 1999 for his services to economics.

The MPC at the Summit

Dr. Weale will be the fourth MPC member to attend the Summit in as many years – following Kate Barker, Dr. Adam Posen and Dr. Andrew Sentence. We’re delighted to have such a renowned figure join this year’s list of speakers.
