Announced: Reem Asaad
Posted on the 11th January 2013 by Tom
The Summit isn't only about politicians and academics. That's why we're pleased to announce that Saudi women's activist Reem Asaad will be joining us in February.
A successful wealth manager and analyst at Saudi Fransi Capital for many years, she was named one of the most influential Arabs in the world by arabianbusiness.com.
But it has been her ‘Lingerie Campaign’ which has caught the most attention. In 2008 she launched one of the most successful social media campaigns in recent years, demanding more jobs for women in the male-dominated business of selling underwear. In 2011 her work paid off, and Saudi's King Abdullah passed a directive ensuring that all such shops should be staffed solely by women.
Tens of thousands of Saudi women can thank Reem Asaad for their jobs, and she now plans to fight to improve provision of childcare for working mothers.
We're very happy to have a women's champion speaking at 2013's Summit.
