Alberto Forchielli is the Managing Director of Mandarin Capital Partners, with over 30 years experience in international business development and fund management, having worked all across the world but with a focus upon Asia.
Forchielli graduated with honours in Economics from the University of Bologna in 1978, and then went on to achieve an MBA at Harvard Business School three years later. He started his career at MAC Group, working as a Consultant and Managing Partner for over a decade in numerous destinations, including: Boston, London, Santiago and Lima. He was then appointed to Senior Management and initiated MACs Italian branch of which he became CEO.
In the early 1990s Alberto Forchielli worked for IRI Group as General Secretary for Privatisations, and supervised twenty divestments of state-owned enterprises for a total value of around 10 billion USD. He then lived in Singapore for a number of years, working as President of the Asia-Pacific branch of Finmeccanica S.p.A. For three years he then worked for the World Bank in Washington DC, where he started as Senior Adviser in the Private Sector Development Department. He was then seconded to the European Investment Bank where he was in charge of the Balkans area.
In the early 2000s he founded Sourcing Solutions Ltd and subsequently “Osservatorio Asia” a non-profit research centre focused on Asia. Furthermore, Forchielli is one of the founding partners of Mandarin Capital Partners, a private equity fund linking mid-market European businesses with Chinese Partners. The fund supports its portfolio companies in the execution of their buy-and-build strategies, organic growth initiatives and operating improvements. Forchielli also currently sits in the Corporate Advisory Board of the China Europe International Business School, one of the world’s top 30 business schools.
Currently, he serves as the Founder, Partner, Managing Director, Investment Committee Member and Board Member of Mandarin Capital Partners, which he founded in 2006. He is also the Founder and President of Osservatorio Asia, a non-profit research center focusing on Asia along with being Founder and President of Cleantech srl, a renewable energy company mainly focused on developing and managing utility-grade solar energy projects. He is also Director of the Executive Council of CEIBS (China Europe International Business School) in Shanghai. Forchielli also has a consistent media presence as he publishes a weekly release: ‘Notebook from Shanghai’ on Radiocor Il Sole 24 Ore, the largest Italian Financial Press Agency. He also holds weekly interviews on China economy on Radio 24 - Il Sole 24 Ore and he publishes his own Blog on Caixin Media website in China.
