The Essentials you need to know

Warwick Economics Summit is looking for a team! You have the opportunity to be part of the largest student-run conference at Warwick playing host to some of the brightest minds and bringing thought-provoking and relevant issues to our campus.

What is WES?

The Warwick Economics Summit began in 2002 and since then has become an extremely popular and well-respected event on campus. The Summit runs over a weekend in February and comprises of inspiring talks, seminars and speaker panels. On the Saturday evening is our much-anticipated Summit Ball where we enjoy a three-course dinner and an opportunity to relax and mingle with the team and guests.

Which team is for you?

When applying to work on the Summit, there are several different teams you have a choice from, including...

Talks responsible for securing distinguished speakers and taking care of the Speakers' experience and logistics at the Summit. As well as organising stand-alone promotional speaker events leading up the Summit and conducting various seminars addressing current issues during the Summit.

looking for individuals who are exceptionally organised and highly motivated who can anticipate tasks leading up to the Summit. Team members must have a genuine interest in contemporary economic and political issues and be keen to openly discuss them.

Finance and Sponsorship responsible for managing Summit’s budget and securing sponsors.

looking for hard-working, open and communicative individuals who are confident interacting with and pitching to potential sponsors.

Communications responsible for all social media & online presence, interviews with speakers, and any communication going out from the Summit to national, regional & local media.

looking for excellent written communication skills, creativity and strong interpersonal skills, this requires high commitment throughout the academic year. Any previous journalistic/blogging experience is welcomed.

Social Events responsible for organising the Summit Ball and socials over the year to create a better team atmosphere.

looking for creative individuals with great organisational and interpersonal skills.

IT responsible for developing the Summit website throughout the year and for audio & visual services during the Summit

looking for individuals with a technical background, experienced in computer science/ software or with a knowledge of audio and visual equipment. N.B. applicants who are willing to learn and have an interest in these areas will also be considered

Internal Marketing and Operations responsible for creating the marketing campaign and projects as well as overseeing operations during the Summit weekend

looking for hard-working team players with a flair for creativity and out-of the box thinking, no need for previous marketing experience, but strong communication skills are a must.

External Marketing and Hospitality responsible for reaching out to universities and academic institutions across the world to attract students to the Summit and look after their needs during the weekend.

looking for individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to generate creative marketing ideas.

You need to think not only about what skills and experience you have but what element of the Summit you are most interested in since though there is overlap, each team has its own unique function.

How to apply and how it works?

Recruitment opens on Tuesday 23rd September and will close on Sunday 12th October. You can apply at our recruitment page where we will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis, so apply as soon as possible. We will be asking a few questions to get to know you better and find out about your interest in the Summit and your chosen team. If successful at this stage, you will be asked to attend an interview with the team coordinators.
