Meet the team.

Summit Coordinators

The Coordinators take overall command of the Summit with influence over every aspect of its planning and implementation. The pair are the main outlet for innovation each year and as the representatives of the Summit they meet with key partners to discuss the aims and logistics of the weekend. On the weekend itself, the Coordinators will be responsible for the general image of the Summit and organisation of the summit's extensive team. They will also be on hand to answer any questions from delegates, speakers and sponsors.

Talks Team

The Talks Team is an integral part of WES. It is responsible for assembling the speaker lineup as well as guiding the Summit’s key themes and discussions. From Nobel laureates to sitting heads of state, the team has a strong record in welcoming some of the world's most distinguished public figures. In addition, Talks handles speaker logistics and panel formats, working closely with the other teams to ensure each edition of the Summit is a success. Prior to the Summit, the team delivers a range of additional events such as one-to-one interviews, and standalone keynote speeches in its WES Presents series. Nonetheless, its unwavering focus is to ensure WES 2022 boasts the Summit’s most diverse, engaging and world-renowned lineup to date.

Operations Team

The Operations Team is responsible for handling the logistics and operations throughout the year and for the Summit weekend itself. It is the team at the Warwick Economics Summit that manages and organises the Summit activity. The team is responsible for taking care of all of the background activities that keep the Summit running efficiently behind the scenes and ensuring that the delegates of the Summit ultimately receive the highest quality of experience at the University of Warwick. They also oversee the purchase of merchandise in a cost-efficient way and ensure that the weekend operations run smoothly. The Operations team works closely with other teams to bring our marketing strategy to life and maintain a physical presence on campus and beyond.

Davina Mahgerefteh

Operations Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2rd Year)

Biography:

Davina is a second year Economics student who started her WES journey as an Operations team member last year, and is now super excited to be heading the Ops team with Zoe and Anthony. Her highlight of last summit was asking Shoshana Zuboff, the final speaker of WES2021, a question that seemed peculiar to most. "Professor Zuboff, gefilte fish or chicken soup?". That's Davina in a nutshell... always thinking about food. Her busy schedule and multiple executive roles in different societies makes it a challenge to find Davina with free time, but if you do spot her round campus or Leamingron, don't be afraid to say hello and smile. She loves to meet new people! Her favourite song to dance to is Hips don't lie- Shakira, so if you hear that song playing in Smack, be sure to keep an eye out for her Middle Eastern moves. On a serious note, Davina is thrilled to be part of the Summit this year and has great faith in its success.

Zoé Héjja

Operations Coordinator

Studying:

Management (3rd Year)

Biography:

Meet Zoe, she joined WES last year as an Operations team Member and because WES is more addictive than chocolate covered almonds (which are heavenly by the way) she decided to stick around and take things to the next level by becoming a coordinator. She is a passionate, enthusiastic and fun person to be around. She is always up for a chat or a round of question game. In her spare time she loves to cook, read, watch movies or grab a pint with some friends. She is very excited to work together with the rest of the WES team.

Anthony Joseph

Operations Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Anthony is a second year Economics student who is delighted to join WES as an Operations Coordinator after hearing about the amazing WES life from Davina and getting major FOMO after attending WES 2021. A proud cricket badger, ther's nothing Anthony would rather do than follow Somerset CCC- except perhaps a snooze to Radio 1.... Complimenting his status as an old man at heart is his passion for cyclng and the occasional-ish IPA. If Anthony's not busy getting excited for a WES event, you can probably find him out of breath on a tennis court or raging at online chess. In fact, his determination for WES success once led him to jump onto a meeting when hiking at 2400m in the Alps.

Press and Communication

Communication is an essential part of WES. At the Press and Communications team, we ensure that important conversations and events - both behind the scenes and during the Summit - are portrayed effectively and widely across a breadth of media channels. By working with journalists and initiating partnerships - with both student-run and industry-leading media organisations, on a local, national and international level - we cultivate the face of the conference. Our work ranges from summarising talks, to interviewing prominent guests, to producing articles that promote debate and broaden horizons. While our schedule is predictably hectic during the Summit weekend, we are busy all year looking for exciting opportunities to cooperate and spread the word about WES! Don’t hesitate to get in touch with the #pressteambestteam at presscoordinator@warwickeconomicssummit.com

External Relations & Hospitality Team

The team’s primary responsibility is to promote the WES brand across the globe through outreach to students outside Warwick to create the most diverse edition of WES yet. The Summit attracts students from top universities across the world, from USA to China, and hosted over 1000 delegates from 50 different countries last year. Prior to the Summit, the team recruits Ambassadors and Representatives, fosters networking opportunities, and works collaboratively with other teams to implement schemes that delegates can engage with. During the Summit, the team manages the logistics of external delegations and ensures they have a smooth and memorable Summit experience.

Tech Team

The Tech Team is responsible for the maintenance of the Warwick Economics Summit website and all the technical aspects that the Summit requires throughout the year. Due to its hybrid nature, WES 2022 promises to be a very exciting and equally challenging summit for the team. For the in-person summit, the team is focusing on delivering an app and installing event equipment to make the event as smooth as possible. The team is also working on creating a virtual platform for the event to be streamed on so virtual attendees do not miss out.

Marketing Team

The Marketing Team shapes the face of WES. Through social media, piazza stalls and podcast, Marketing aims to reach those interested in joining the debate. It is a close collaborator with all teams to show what WES' talks, events, sponsors, blogs and more, is really about. More importantly, Marketing is keen to find new ways to grow WES' audience, as it reaches its 21st year. On a practical level, the Marketing team is sustained by a mix of Canva, Photoshop, After Effects and Final Cut Pro, and the organised chaos of post schedules.

Social Events Team

The main goal of the Socials & Alumni Engagement Team is to help create a strong bond between team members, which is more crucial than ever after the virtual nature of the conference last year. We aim to create socials and challenges to engage all members during the year, encouraging bonding across all teams. Highlights include the WES Tour, where we aim to improve the team dynamic and build connections between members. Another is the WES Ball, where we strive to make the event an unforgettable one. We are also responsible for managing the diverse network of WES alumni, keeping them up-to-date on current WES events.

Sponsors and Partners Team

The Sponsorship and Partnership team is responsible for liaising with sponsors and partners, raising sponsorship, bringing in high profile institutions and ensuring our sponsors and partners get the exposure they deserve. We are also responsible for managing the Summit’s budget, which entails working with departments to secure funding, controlling budget spending and applying for internal and external grants in order to ensure we make the most out of one of the largest society budgets on campus.

James Low

 Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

James is a third year Economics student and has been a part of WES for the better part of his time at Warwick. A passionate music enthusiast, he’s always down to take a deep dive into the world of music, from obscure jazz or experimental hip hop records to the poppiest tune on radio. He also writes and produces music in his spare time, and enjoys a good workout or hike. His attention to detail ensures the exceptional reputation of the WES brand, and he looks forward to achieving greater reach through the hybrid summit and improving the delegate experience for both in-person and virtual attendees.

Elakiya Ananthakrishnan

Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Elakiya is a third-year Economics student who applied to be a talks team member on a whim in her first year and has loved it ever since. Passionate about putting the world’s most important debates on the WES stage, she is both ambitious and excited about what WES 2022 has to offer. She is friendly, always willing to provide snacks, and loves a good conversation. When she’s not busy hoping her favourite speakers will put WES on their agenda she can be found debating, hurrying to something she’s inevitably late for, or daydreaming about food.

Milena Ermolenko

Deputy Coordinator

Studying:

EPAIS (2nd Year)

Biography:

Milena is a second year EPAIS student, who fell in love with WES before she even decided to go to Warwick – back in pre-Covid March 2020 when she attended an Open Day. From a keen team member to Talks Coordinator this year, she is excited to deliver one of the best editions of the Summit yet thanks to the amazing speaker line-up! She is always on the go, and having lived in 5 different countries she cannot imagine her life without travelling. She is truly passionate about dance and theatre, and in her free time likes to improvise to any genre of music and sometimes even post it on her Instagram… She is always happy to have a chat, go for a walk, explore new places, read, or just have a fun time!

Jonathan Newman

Deputy Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Before arriving at Warwick, Jonno's friends described him as a “loveable puppy”. That should tell you everything there is to know about this second year Economics student’s boundless enthusiasm and hectic personality! Whether it’s optimistically loading up barbells at the university gym, stuck halfway up Ben Nevis or embarrassing himself on the Smack dancefloor, he’s probably wearing P.E. Shorts and a t-shirt (yes, even in the snow!) which should make him easy to spot. This is especially true since he rarely leaves the house without his precious WES jumper, which is always good free advertising. Oh, and he’s a huge fan of Led Zeppelin; he likes to think he has what it takes to emulate John Bonham, but that’s definitely a stretch! In all seriousness, Jonno can’t wait to coordinate the Talks Team this year alongside Milena and Marius.

Marius Guerin

Deputy Coordinator

Studying:

EPAIS (2nd Year)

Biography:

Marius is a second year EPAIS student who joined WES last year as a member of ERH. He’s Norwegian and French and won’t hesitate to tell you about his cherished motherlands. You might recognise him from last year’s Summit interviewing renowned speakers. Rumour has it, he became friends with Professor Muhammad Yunus! Besides obsessively refreshing the Talks inbox, his pass times include travelling, outdoor sports and nights out. He’s not an acclaimed dancer but watch out for his football skills! With a Haaland mentality and an Mbappé persistence, he’s eager to build the Summit’s most engaging speaker line-up ever.

Ingrid Bahnemann

Press and Communications Coordinator

Studying:

PPE (3rd Year)

Biography:

After a very positive experience as a team member in the WES 2021 Press and Partnerships team, Ingrid is keen to focus her energy on elevating the blog - and all things media and communications - as a WES coordinator this year… so expect lots of punny bylines and over-eager introductions! Originating from South Africa, but having grown up around the Middle East, she loves spending (probably too much) time in museums or behind a camera lens while travelling to new places and meeting new people. Entering her third year of a Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree this year, Ingrid is looking forward to the slow return to travel and big events - and to enjoying both at a groundbreaking hybrid WES 2022.

Natalia Tronina

Press and Communications Coordinator

Studying:

EPAIS (2nd Year)

Biography:

Natalia is a second year Economics, Politics and International Studies student who joined WES last year as a Press and Partnerships team member. With her first year enthusiasm much dampened by the pandemic, WES became one of very few ways to meet new people and engage fully in the university experience - something for which she will be long thankful! Truly passionate about any and every sport discipline - with an emphasis on tennis and skiing - she also loves cooking (and sharing some delicious recipes on her blog) and drinking all kinds of tea under a warm blanket on cosy evenings. If not by her name, you can call her a sport freak or a girl with a flannel pumpkin spice latte vibe - both descriptions fit just perfectly.

Dinah Mathews Payamplattu

ERH Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Dinah is a second year Economics student from Dubai and India who joined WES in her first year as an ERH team member. When she is not keeping the team together and making sure Millie and Jan don’t just waffle the whole way through the meetings, she can be found scrolling endlessly on Twitter while steadfastly avoiding the latest football news (FCB fans know the pain). If you ever receive a piece of text from ERH, you can say with 99% certainty that it was written by Dinah (this bio may be the only exception). She is definitely the brains of the team when it comes to travel logistics - making the others aware of their European privilege. You can always count on Dinah to be there whenever you need anything - without her, ERH would be a mess!

Jan Szydło

ERH Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Jan is a second year Economics student from Poland who also joined WES in his first year as an ERH team member. He is our resident maths whiz and spreadsheet expert. Always full of energy, you can count on him to be brewing coffee or making bad jokes in every meeting. When he’s not watching Suits, you can catch him making terrible financial decisions by match betting football or enjoying a night out in true Polish style. As our internal social exec, he has the innate talent of making even strangers feel like they’ve known him forever, and he’ll never turn down the opportunity to meet new people (or down a pint - maybe four). In order to charge his crazy social battery, he does have to take frequent naps - he has an inhuman ability to perfectly time his naps with no alarms. Jan always has a smile on his face and brings a lot of lighthearted humour and fun to ERH

Millie Hayman

ERH Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Millie is a third year Economics student from England who joined WES as a team member in her second year (applying only an hour before the deadline - in true Millie fashion). Her hobbies include spending half her budget on random takeaways, flexing her adorable dog and trying to avoid spending hours on TikTok. Sarcastic and witty, you won’t notice the time fly by when you are talking to her. She's also the reason we can never schedule a meeting before 11AM - no force of nature can make her sacrifice her sleep. As the wise old sage of the team, she’s always ready with great advice on fancy corporate jobs, and despite her advancing years she’s down for a good chat or a night out (just don’t ask her to sing ;)). She truly makes ERH the great warm place it is!

Arjiv Jivithkumar

Tech Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Arjiv is a second year economics student who joined WES last year as a technology team member. After having learnt some Python over his gap year, Arjiv joined the Tech Team to further his passion for technology. WES 2021 saw him tackle exciting projects such as the 16-18 year old website page with the goal of increasing youth participation within economics. However, he now manages all things related to the virtual platform for the upcoming 2022 summit. When he’s not working on WES or his economics modules, you can catch him trying (very hard) to become fluent in Mandarin or mindlessly checking his stock portfolio every few minutes.

Madalina Dumitrescu

Tech Coordinator

Studying:

Computer Science with Business Studies (4th Year)

Biography:

Madalina is a fourth year computer science with business studies student whose strong devotion for WES made her rejoin the team after getting back from her year abroad. Her hard working and passionate character makes her truly dedicated to whatever she is involved in, be it WES, tech or a night out in the club. In her free time, Mada likes to keep her options as open as possible not to get bored, so she juggles between cooking, technology and celebrity gossip. For WES 2022, she plans to ensure that the first hybrid edition of the summit will run as smooth as possible, with no technical emergencies arising.

David Sangojinmi

Tech Coordinator

Studying:

Computer Science (2nd Year)

Biography:

David is a second year Computer Science student who joined WES in his first year as a member of the Tech team. Having learnt to code from a young age, he takes any chance to learn new technologies and test his skills in different projects. With the help of the other talented Tech Coordinators, he plans to make this hybrid edition of WES as smooth and efficient as possible. If he is not working hard or chilling with his friends, then you'll find him at the gym *still* trying to deadlift 3x his bodyweight.

Yasmin Burambayeva

Marketing Coordinator

Studying:

History and Politics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Yasmin is a third-year History & Politics student who joined WES in her second year as a Marketing Team Member! Impressed and inspired by the team’s energy, work ethic, and incredible people, her love for the WES experience saw her re-join the team as Marketing Coordinator this year. Yasmin enjoys working with people and always tries to approach problems with an optimistic attitude and a light touch. When not in ‘work mode’, she is a relaxed person who loves yoga, connecting with nature, and spending time with/getting to know people. Most importantly, she is incredibly excited to work with the rest of the team to shape and organise the best iteration of WES we can possibly deliver this year!

James Burchell

Marketing Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

James is a second year Economics student who joined WES last year as a Marketing team member. Having been wowed by WES on initial open days, applying for the marketing team was the perfect fit for his first year at university. If he’s not on the terraces of his local Cheltenham Town or refereeing rugby around the country, you will find him on Photoshop grinding out graphics to market the summit. Having taken on the role of Coordinator in the Spring, he is excited about the role that marketing can play in the 2022 summit, with new content ideas for before, during and after WES. Also, he edits WESPOD – go listen!

Tina Tsz Ying Lee

Marketing Coordinator

Studying:

PPE (3rd Year)

Biography:

Tina is a third-year PPE student who joined WES only this year (honestly, a bit too late), after being enamoured by WES' aesthetic and hearing amazing things about the team. When she's not working on video projects, i.e. trying to make lines in After Effects move precisely, you can find her hunting for good food; namely, Banh Mi or authentic South East Asian dishes. She remains an avid musician, despite her piano and guitar skills peaking in high school. If you spot her on campus with her Airpods in, she is probably enjoying any of the 67 playlists she's curated on Spotify; but that aside, please do say hi!

Emily Miranthi

Social Events Coordinator

Studying:

EPP (2nd Year)

Biography:

Emily is a second year EPP student who joined WES this year, as a Socials Coordinator. When she is not planning the next social event, she can be found explaining the difference between EPP and PPE. She regularly binge-watches Friends and can be super-obsessive over pets, despite her ornithophobia (fear of birds). Emily is committed to encourage team-bonding, through a series of activities, stories and jokes (small preview to follow)! - fat penguin - I said something to break the ice!

Katherine Ho

Social Events Coordinator

Studying:

PPE (2nd Year)

Biography:

Katie is a second year PPE student who joined WES this year as the Socials & Alumni Engagement Coordinator. She loves everything music related. From playing the piano to shuffling her endless Drake playlists to karaoking, it will never be quiet when you are around her. She is also a massive foodie - more specifically a pastaholic and korean-fried chicken fanatic. If you fancy trying out new restaurants, you know that she will always be down to accompany you! But don’t be offended if she takes more photos of the food instead of you! With all that said, when the going gets tough, she’s always there to listen with plenty of support.

Michal Wizner

Sponsors & Partners Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Michał is a 2nd year Economics student. He joined WES as a Finance and Sponsorship Team Member and after 6 months of countless calls, meeting extraordinary people and liasing with sponsors, he could not stop himself from applying for the coordinator role. Michał believes that the next Summit will be the most challenging and, at the same time, marvellous of all the previous ones. Polish at heart, he will be always more than happy to chat with you about his countless hobbies (try out aviation if you have too much free time), why kangaroos are the best, and how to improve our S&P strategy.

Ryan Yap

Sponsors & Partners Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Ryan is a second-year Economics student who joined WES last year as a Finance and Sponsorship team member. Having spent the whole summer compiling and cold emailing contacts, he is always on the lookout for possible sponsors and partners. In his spare time, you could find him playing (and struggling in) Football Manager or watching a wide range of action movies. He also enjoys watching and playing sports, particularly the NBA, where he wonders every day when the Dallas Mavericks will finally make it past the first round. He is always willing to listen to you, so don’t be afraid to reach out to him for help or just to make fun of his love-hate relationship with Manchester United

James Smith

Sponsors & Partners Coordinator and Treasurer

Studying:

PPE (2nd Year)

Biography:

A 2nd year PPE student, James joined WES as a Finance and Sponsorship Team Member in October 2020. Since making fantastic friends and creating some unforgettable experiences, James is ecstatic to be coordinating the Sponsorship team for WES this year.
