Meet the team.

Summit Coordinators

The Coordinators take overall command of the Summit with influence over every aspect of its planning and implementation. The pair are the main outlet for innovation each year and as the representatives of the Summit they meet with key partners to discuss the aims and logistics of the weekend. On the weekend itself the Coordinators will be responsible for the general image of the Summit and organisation of the summit's extensive team. They will also be on hand to answer any questions from delegates, speakers and sponsors.

Talks Team

Each year the Talks Team strive to secure a distinguishing variety of high-profile speakers for the Summit. From Nobel Prize Winners to Central Bank Governors, year upon year the Summit can claim to welcome movers and shakers of the economic, political and business worlds. Inviting speakers and subsequently arranging their speaking arrangements and logistics are just a few of the tasks involved in creating the Summit. Besides organising stand-alone promotional speaker events leading up the Summit, our Team members also conduct various seminars addressing happening issues of today during the Summit.

Operations Team

The Operations Team is responsible for handling the logistics and operations throughout the year and for the Summit weekend itself. It is the team at the Warwick Economics Summit that manages and organises the Summit activity. The team is responsible for taking care of all of the background activities that keep the Summit running efficiently behind the scenes and ensuring that the delegates of the Summit ultimately receive the highest quality of experience at the University of Warwick. They also oversee the purchase of merchandise in a cost-efficient way and ensure that the weekend operations run smoothly. The Operations team works closely with other teams to bring our marketing strategy to life and maintain a physical presence on campus and beyond.

Press and Partnerships

The Press and Partnerships Team is responsible for all communications, both internally and externally, regarding the Summit. They liaise with the media, ranging from national press outlets to student publications in order to give the Summit as much coverage as possible. They are also responsible for the management of the prominent social media presence that the Summit enjoys. The team will be working to bring you the latest news on the development of the 2019 programme, as well as the best of the weekend as it happens. Be sure to keep an eye on the website, our Facebook page and our Twitter feed for our updates.

External Relations & Hospitality Team

Responsible for marketing the Warwick Economics Summit to students outside the University of Warwick. The Summit attracts students from top universities across the world - last year it hosted over 200 external delegates from 17 different countries! The team also provides delegates with premium accommodation and directions on how to arrive on campus, while also ensuring that the external participants are comfortable throughout their stay.

Tech Team

The Tech Team is responsible for the maintenance of the Warwick Economics Summit website and all the technical aspects that the Summit requires throughout the year. These responsibilities range from ticketing through to live-streaming the talks during the weekend. This year, the Tech Team has worked exceptionally hard to bring you a new website and revised version of the WES app and will continue to do so all the way up to the Summit weekend.

Marketing Team

The Marketing team is responsible for building and promoting the WES brand throughout and beyond campus, all year-round. Furthermore, during the Summit weekend, we work hard to provide an unforgettable experience for all our visitors. This entails coming up with social media content and creative ways to announce our speakers and events, designing and making the promotional material, and ensuring that WES 2021 is a sell-out success, just like every year before it.

Social Events Team

The role of the Social Events Team has changed a lot due to COVID-19, however our main goal remains the same, to help create strong bonds between team members and we do this by organising regular virtual socials and challenges throughout the year. We also are responsible for facilitating interaction between delegates during the Summit Weekend through events that spark discussion, as well as engaging Alumni to keep them up-to-date on current WES events.

Finance & Sponsorship Team

The Finance and Sponsorship Team is responsible both for management of the summit finances and liaising with sponsors; raising sponsorship and ensuring our partners get the exposure they deserve. Working with our high profile sponsors for mutual benefit is a big part of the team's role, and we are also responsible for the departmental budget allocation, control of summit spending and ensuring we can get the most out of one of the largest society budgets on campus

Kako Higashida

 Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Kako is a third-year economics student who spent her first two years in WES in the External Relations and Hospitality team. Now in her final year, she is working towards marking the history of WES with the first virtual conference. She is very excited to help connect more students from around the world than ever before. Outside of WES, Kako is known as a major Star Wars fan! Ask her if Star Wars and Star Trek are the same and she might never talk to you again. Her dedication towards WES almost matches the month in which she finished all 10 seasons of “Friends”. She also changes her hair style quite often, from long to short, blonde to brown. But don't worry, her love for WES will never change.

Ami Kocher

Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Ami is a third year economics student who has been part of WES throughout her time at Warwick. Since joining, she has brought her energetic personality and funny stories to WES. Her goal for the WES2021 is to give delegates an experience that reflects the milestone year it is for WES. Other than talking about WES, Ami spends her time Thai Boxing, obsessing over F1 or watching trash TV. She is a kind and caring friend who is always happy to help but greatly appreciates snacks in return. Don't be surprised if you see Ami indulging in a whole block of Toblerone.

Paolo Romanengo

Deputy Coordinator

Studying:

PPE (2nd Year)

Biography:

Paolo is a second year PPE student and joined WES last year as a Talks Team member and now Talks Coordinator. Proudly Italian he won't loose a chance to cook some delicious meal for his team, he did it as a team member and only the future knows what he will do as Coordinator.. He is also in the rowing club, at home he is a coach in his originary club, but he has gone back to races in Warwick, and he won't stop talking about it. The team makes fun of him, but he's good at balancing the talks with good food.

Elakiya Ananthakrishnan

Deputy Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Elakiya is a second-year Economics student who applied to be a talks team member on a whim last year and has loved it ever since. Passionate about putting the world’s most important debates on the WES stage, she is both ambitious and excited about WES 2021’s (amazing!) lineup. She is friendly, always willing to provide snacks, and loves a good conversation. When she’s not busy hoping her favourite speakers will put WES on their agenda she can be found debating, sneaking into PAIS to raid the hot chocolate machine (is that why they got rid of it?), hurrying to something she’s inevitably late for, or daydreaming about food.

Zaki Said

Deputy Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Zaki is a second year Economics student, who joined WES last year as a member of the Talks team and became Talks Coordinator this year. When he’s not cooking spaghetti Bolognese for the 1826th time, he’s religiously playing FIFA or enjoying an eventful (not always for the right reason) night out with his friends. Zaki is a passionate football fan, but when it comes to playing he’s often likened to a giraffe in boots, so make sure to check him out pulling the strings for his team this year. With family in the Iraqi Communist party he really is a man of the people, so always be sure to approach him if you want to have a chat about anything. Big and scary on the outside, but soft and friendly on the inside.

Leonor Ferreira

Operations Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Meet Leonor ( known by Leo – which no, it’s not a guy’s nickname) she joined WES last year as an Operations Team Member and her organisational and time management skills pushed her to be one of the Ops Coordinators this year. Leo is the perfect definition of “work hard, play hard”: she NEVER misses a Smack Tuesday but in the next day you can already find her in the Grid working. As if working on a Wednesday after smack wasn’t hard enough, she’s also part of the Basketball team and never misses a game. If you ever need any advice Leo is definitely the right person to look for, but be ready to be called " bro" every time.

Prashant Parmar

Operations Coordinator

Studying:

PPE (2nd Year)

Biography:

Prash joined WES last year as an Operations team member, but because Operations is not something you are, it's something you have, he is now a coordinator! In his spare time, he has such fun cooking, baking (pancakes) and playing Tennis. The typical philosophy student, you’ll find him watching TV whenever he can, from competition shows to trash TV. Being a sarcastic and witty person, sometimes having no filter, he is always up for a good social (or feedback form), to have a laugh and hang out with friends. If there’s gin or any food, he’ll already be there! He’s easy to spot, as he wears shorts for the majority of the year, even in winter, but, should he be wearing any more clothes?!?

Alexandra Butterworth

Press and Partnerships Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Alexandra is a second year Economics student who joined WES last year as a Communications team member. Half Malaysian and Half Australian yet London born and raised, she has more of an interest for writing about international affairs for the blog than she does about her own degree. As Press and Partnerships is a brand new team, she can't wait to see what can be achieved as a coordinator. Alexandra is also deeply passionate about personal finance, learning Mandarin Chinese, punny headlines and knitting.

Edward Reader

Press and Partnerships Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Edward is a second year Economics student who joined WES last year as a member of the Operations team. He has since made the leap to Press and Partnerships coordinator and has already secured some impressive partners. A keen hockey player and fitness fanatic, you're as likely to see him in the gym as much as you'll find him sat at his computer emailing contacts.

Florence Chua

ERH Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Florence is a third year Economics student who joined WES this year as an ERH Coordinator. Instantly clicking with her fellow ERH team at a movie night after plenty of zoom meetings, her time in WES so far has been a blast to say the least! While she loves her messy nights out (thankfully for her there's no tour this year), she's a grandma and will bake you matcha cookies if you're lucky. With all that said, from fashion to food, you can find her obsessively scrolling on her Instagram feed for hours at a time, but at the end of the day she still gets the job done (well). Her happy tappy feet are a tell-tail sign that the cogs are turning. When the going gets tough, she's always there to listen with plenty of support and if you see her around, she's always up for coffee :)

Anton Macfadyen

ERH Coordinator

Studying:

PPE (2nd Year)

Biography:

Anton is a second year PPE student and passionate ERH coordinator. He loves his fellow ERH coordinators even though he’s mainly seen them on Zoom. When he’s not repeatedly refreshing the Ambassador applications page to see new entries, he’s honing his Fifa ’03 skills and trying new restaurants in Leamington Spa (not at the same time). His claim to fame is being French but living in Geneva, and at one point attending four different school in 4 years. We all love Anton and his warm smile.

Aneesh Jois

ERH  Coordinator

Studying:

Engineering (2nd Year)

Biography:

Aneesh is a second year engineering student with a passion for economics. He’s friendly and approachable, you’ll see him playing cricket and investing in shares in his free time.

Horea Pinca

Tech Coordinator

Studying:

Computer Science (4th Year)

Biography:

Horea is a fourth year Computer Science student, who only joined WES during his 3rd Year, in the Tech team, and later applied for a team coordinator position. When he is not cooking his daily pancakes for breakfast, he can be often found arguing with his friends over a FIFA match or watching completely non-sense videos on Youtube. He enjoys many sports, such as tennis, football or table tennis, and he can never decline an invitation to skiing, no matter the time of the year. Horea is also obsessed with sneakers, so if you ever mention this topic, be prepared for a long conversation.

Karan Khagram

Tech Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Karan is a second year Economics Student who joined WES this year as a Tech Coordinator. Developing an interest in coding from a young age, Karan has always looked for opportunities to develop his tech skills and hopes he can utilise what he has learnt and learn more from his fellow co-ordinators during this years summit. With an avid interest in football and basketball, you will often find him in heated conversations with his friends reliving Manchester United's successful years under Fergie or arguing why the Miami Heat have been the best team in the NBA bubble. Known to party hard, you will never fail see him on a night out as he is often a regular at Smack or Neon (unfortunately, home will have to cut it out for him this year). In his spare time, he enjoys binge watching Netflix series, reading books about his favourite entrepreneurs or dining out in London's restaurant scene.

Serena Mile

Tech Coordinator

Studying:

Computer Science (4th Year)

Biography:

Serena is a third-year computer scientist. Thought this couldn’t get cooler? Just wait. You’ll certainly have noticed her cat-walking in the Grid, or queuing for Smack q-jumps while giving people around her the model stare. She is bright, hard-working and when you won't find her at the gym, she'll be busy working on delivering the best WES edition in her power.

Sohaila Abdelaal

Marketing Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Sohaila, also known as Su, is a third-year Economics students who initially joined WES at the end of her first year as a ERH coordinator. With her positivity and her endless list of memes, there is never a dull moment with Su (even on Zoom). She is a go-to person if you’re looking for a killer iced latte or chocolate cake recipe. When she’s not designing content for WES, you can find her channeling her creative flair into her artwork. Her conscientious and detailed perspective towards her work helps keeps the Marketing team organised and focused to reach their goals for the summit.

James Low

A passionate music enthusiast, he’s always down to take a deep dive into the world of music, from obscure jazz or experimental hip hop records to the poppiest tune on radio. He also writes and produces music in his spare time, and enjoys a good workout or hike. Being an Operations team member last year at WAC he is looking for a new change and strives to put his marketing skills and hard work into good use for the Summit. In his spare time, he enjoys playing weekly five-a-side football, sharing his music from Spotify, and creating new food recipes despite all the complaints from his friends. He is also a big Man Utd fan and loves having conversations about how successful his team used to be. Socialising with others and going out on a Friday night is common for him but he never fails to balance time for WES and chatting about life updates with his team in the meeting while making sure the summit is moving towards greater success.

Aabia Afzal

Social Events Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3rd Year)

Biography:

Aabia’s adventure in WES began in her second year as a Social Events Coordinator after attending the summit in her first year, and has continued until now in the same role. After being voted the drunkest on last year’s tour even though she doesn’t drink, you can see why the Socials Team was definitely made for her. When she’s not in the library studying and eating rice cakes with peanut butter, you can probably find her brunching (most likely eating pancakes) and taking lots of pictures of food or sunsets. As well as being super sweet and friendly, if you ever need any advice, Aabia is undoubtedly the right person to ask. You can spend hours talking with her and will have such a great time that the time will fly by! But out of all of these, the best way to spot Aabia is by hearing her contagious and heart-warming laugh!

Mariana Ramos

Social Events Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Mariana joined the WES family as a valuable socials team member as a fresher, and she went onto become a Social Events Coordinator in her second year. As a proud portuguese, she is a diehard Porto FC fan and will never fail to drop her love for the team into conversation. If you are ever feeling down, Mariana is the best person to go to and will be sure to always light up the room with her contagious smile! When she isn’t busy planning the next virtual WES social, Mariana can be found either in the grid working hard on her economics degree or looking for her next opportunity to meet her favourite footballer, Iker Casillas.

Rohan Chadha

Finance Co-coordinator & Treasurer

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Rohan is a second year Economics student who joined WES this year as a Finance & Sponsorship Coordinator and can't quite believe he didn't apply to join WES in his first year given all the other six societies he attended! Seemlessly intergrating with his fellow coordinators it was a busy summer of cold emailing any company that would work perfectly as a sponsor for WES. When not busy as Treasurer filling out MRFs (don't worry some of the team are still unsure what these are exactly), Rohan can be found watching sports with friends or dining out in London's restaurant scene. He is always available to provide great advice and support to any of his mates, just as long as they are expecting a rational, sarcastic or cheeky response. Rohan is also deeply passionate about match betting, investing and all things business or start-up related so at least everyone knows the WES budget is in safe hands ... or is it ;)

Parth Devalia

Finance Co-Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (2nd Year)

Biography:

Parth is a second year Econ student from London who joined the Finance and Sponsorship team last year, and has continued his WES journey as a Coordinator this year.He works tirelessly to ensure WES2021 reaches its full potential and clinches those sponsorship deals. When he’s not listening to Nicki Minaj, he’s probably drinking cold coffee or talking to you about the meaning of life (or both). He’s the best person to go to if you need advice and his friends all trust his judgements and opinions massively. Above all he’s a great friend, just don’t ask him to cook for you.

Patrycja Wesołowska

Finance Co-Coordinator

Studying:

Economics (3nd Year)

Biography:

Patrycja is a third year Economics student, who joined WES last year as a Finance and Sponsorship Team Member. When she is not writing countless emails to potential sponsors, she can usually be found in local cafes drinking hectolitres of coffee, chatting away with her friends or desperately trying to learn Mandarin Chinese. She’s known for her Netflix addiction, love for dachshunds and her innate talent to make every dish tasteless. Truly Polish at heart despite being a Londoner. She’s always up for a chat and if you need any help, Patrycja is one of the best people to ask.
