The Summit's history... in brief

This is a very worthwhile project encouraging students to study and debate current economic issues. It helps build confidence amongst the students and is of real educational value.
Alistair Darling, Former Chancellor of the Exchequer

The first Warwick Economics Summit took place between 25th - 27th January, 2002. This marked the first inter-university undergraduate Economics event in the UK. Approximately 170 students, including 40 non-Warwick students, attended lectures, debates and student-led seminars. The Summit was entitled "No longer inevitable? The future of the World Economy after September 11th".

The event was a great success and laid the foundations for the following summits. The Summit has risen to become a well respected event at the University of Warwick, which is reflected in the range of backgrounds of visiting delegations and the quality of speakers the Summit has attracted. Notable speakers of the past summits include Prof. John F. Nash (Nobel Laureate 1994), Alistair Darling (former Chancellor of the Exchequer of HM Treasury) and John Authers (Global Head of the Lex Column - the flagship column of the Financial Times). A more detailed list of past speakers can be found here.

The eleventh anniversary of the Warwick Economics Summit aims to build upon the quality and reputation of previous summits, and shall take place between 17th-19th February, 2012.
